NCAA football has come under scrutiny for years no matter what system they used to determine national champions and bowl game participants.

Now there is talk gaining steam of an NCAA playoff format.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 both favor seeing conference champions only in college football’s eventual playoff system.

The SEC and ACC were the first conferences to propose a playoff system. However if it is conference champs only, the heavily loaded conferences, such as the SEC, will only be represented by a single team. Meanwhile they may have 4 teams that can beat whoever wins the Big Ten (just as an example).

No matter what system they choose, someone is going to draw the short straw. There’s no perfectly and evenly fair way to determine the playoff teams.

It all remains to be seen just how it will be written up but it seems inevitable that the NCAA is going to a playoff system.

What is not changing is the fact you can order NCAA Bowl game tickets online now, in advance, and reserve your spot at any game of your choice.

Arkasas coach Bobby Petrino’s motorcylce veered off a two-lane highway in the hills of northern Arkansas Sunday night. Petrino ended up in the hospital.

A statement by his family reveals that Petrino is in stable condition:

“Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals,” the statement said. “He is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time.”

Coach Petrino is a life-long motorcycle enthusiast and we wish him well in his recover.

Arkansas finished 5th in the college rankings last season, their only two losses came to the top two teams in the country, LSU and Alabama.

Arkansas defeated Kansas St in the Cotton Bowl by a score of 29-16.

There is growing sentiment among NCAA football officials that a four team playoff is the ideal way to determine the National Championship.

But don’t tell that to former Southeastern Conference commissioner and Bowl Championship Series architect Roy Kramer, Kramer still believes the current system is the best possible system.

Here’s an excerpt of an interview with Kramer from timesfreepress.com:

“I’m not sure I would change anything,” Kramer said last week. “You’re not going to end the controversy if you pick four teams, because now you’re picking between teams that are fourth and fifth, and that’s going to be a lot more controversial than picking the top two teams, because all of those teams are going to look alike. You would have had tremendous controversy last year over who that fourth team was going to be.”

As a college football fan, I personally do not have a problem with the current system. It is enjoyable to watch the bowl games and typically the BCS game is a good one, despite the way ‘Bama rolled over LSU this year — did anybody really think that would happen? It was built up as a huge game and it was, their game from November 5, 2011 is one of the best games in terms of drama and a defensive battle that you’re going to find. It just doesn’t always play out that way in the big games but then again, that’s why they play the games, isn’t it? If we knew who’d win and how it’d go, nobody would watch!

Still the debate goes on and if there’s change, there’s going to be pros and cons to that, just like there are with the current system. But one thing is for certain, somewhere, somehow there has to be a National Championship game and will all the money tied up in them, the NCAA bowl games aren’t likely going anywhere, either.

The NCAA’s Committee on Infractions released its final verdict on Monday in a case that embarrassed the University of North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program. The violations also have tarnished the school’s previously fine academic reputation.

It led to the early retirement of former athletic director Dick Baddour and the firing of football coach Butch Davis.

The committee ruled that the UNC football team must serve a one-year postseason ban in 2012, and eliminate five football scholarships per year in each of the next three academic years. The committee also increased UNC’s self-imposed probationary period from two years to three.

This means no NCAA bowl games anytime soon for the Tar Heels.

The scandal broke on Twitter in 2010 when Tar Heels standout Marvin Austin foolishly tweeted about partying in night clubs.

That tweet started an NCAA investigation which eventually led to the discovery that Austin had received benefits from an agent.

As time went on, the growing investigation uncovered several major violations within the UNC football program.

One of the few NCAA bowl games to be played in cold weather, the New Era Pinstripe Bowl has been hosted at Yankee Stadium the past two years with so-so attendance results.

Despite having local Big East schools Syracuse (2010) and Rutgers (2011) involved, the Pinstripe Bowl has failed to sellout the stadium to an acceptable level. While not a surprise, as many bowls do not sellout, the question needs to be raised is this enough of a money maker for the stadium to continue or are there better options for them to monetize the venue during what is their off-season.

There are rumors the National Hockey League would love to host their premiere mid-season New Year’s Day event, the outdoor Winter Classic, at Yankee Stadium in the future. As long as the Pinstripe Bowl is there, this will not be possible. The NHL needs time to setup and build a rink with an ice surface suitable for league play. Typically they begin building the rink a month in advance of the Winter Classic.

The question is, what would bring more fans, and money, to Yankee Stadium in December/January… a college football game between a Big East and an Big 12 team, or an outdoor hockey game between the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins, for example?

There is one more year left on the initial deal for the Pinstripe Bowl to establish itself. If that does not happen and the game is not renewed, look for the Winter Classic to come to Yankee Stadium as early as New Year’s Day 2014.

Fans can find Pinstripe Bowl tickets and all college bowl game tickets at SelectATicket. For that matter, they can also find Winter Classic tickets there, too.

The AFC All-Pros defeated the NFC All-Pros by a score of 59-41 in Sunday’s NFL Pro Bowl.

In a game that displayed little if any of the defensive talent that was on the field, the teams pretty much were in a punch for punch scorefest.

The NFL Pro Bowl is a special treat and an honor for the players but nobody wants to put themselves in harm’s way for a meaningless game. They are more there to enjoy a hard fought season and be rewarded with a trip to Hawaii with their family.

The Pro Bowl is also a treat for NFL fans in Hawaii who do not get to come to the continental US and catch some games during the regular season, so the game comes to them. Also we’re sure league executives don’t mind spending some time in Hawaii leading up to this week’s Super Bowl.

The Pro Bowl has been played in Hawaii almost every year. A few seasons ago they tried having it in the same city as the Super Bowl, when it was in Miami, but then reverted back to Aloha Stadium in Hawaii the past two years.

Next year’s game will once again be held at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. Fans can sign up now, for free and with no strings attached, to receive an email alert when 2013 NFL Pro Bowl Tickets can be ordered at SelectATicket.com. There is no commitment to buy and you will only be emailed about the Pro Bowl tickets. You may unsubscribe at any time through links contained in the emails.

The 2012 NFL Pro Bowl will take place this Sunday January 29 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Football fans can still get tickets to see the best players in the league (or at least the best players not on a Super Bowl team) compete in the annual All Star game.

Held on the off-week between the Conference championship games and the Super Bowl, the Pro Bowl naturally cannot have any players from the New York Giants or New England Patriots this season. Both teams have star players but they are preparing for the Super Bowl in what will be a rematch of Super Bowl XLII.

With just a few days before kickoff, select seats still remain available for the 2012 NFL Pro Bowl.

Fans can order NFL Pro Bowl tickets online and have them delivered to them in Hawaii in time for the game.

Now is the best time to order 2013 BCS Championship Game tickets. Although the teams are not determined, you know you are going to see the National college football championship determined, be there to see the Coach’s Trophy handed out at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium next January 7.

The 2012 BCS Championship Game was held in New Orleans and featured a rematch between SEC rivals LSU and Alabama. Bama’s Crimson Tide rolled over the LSU Tigers by a final score of 21-0 but the game wasn’t even THAT close. LSU crossed midfield only one time all game as their offense sputtered repeatedly under heavy pressure from the Alabama defense.

The 2011 game was determined by a last second field goal for Auburn over Oregon.

Year in and year out the BCS Championship game is the one bowl game that EVERYBODY with even a passing interest in college football watches. Be among the lucky crowd and order 2013 BCS Championship tickets.
